Default Different sized hose diameter

Hi people, I am from Indonesia and am completely new at this. I actually have so many questions to ask and one of them is related to hose diameter sizes.

I am currently in the process of installing a Smiths little torch together with my main torch. With cost efficiency intentions in mind, I decided to use a single tank for gas supply and to cut the hose somewhere in the middle (closer to torch) and install Y connectors. One of the problems is that it is very difficult to find Grade T (most shops don’t even know the difference between R & T and assumes all are the same but that’s another problem altogether) twin hoses here and for some reason, it comes in different sized hoses. E.g. 1/4” ID for Oxygen and 3/8” ID for gas.

Is it alright for me to have the whole system using 1/4” ID hoses and a part of it using 3/8” ID hose? Is it safe? Does it affect the torch flame characteristics? Thanks alot!

I'm sorry I do not know the answer. I hope you found someone more knowledgeable to help you. You could also try TorchTalk on Facebook.

The hose size won't matter at all as long as your torches are able to get enough flow to run through your smallest diameter section. 1/4" is pretty standard except for the largest torches. So having a section of 3/8" won't impact anything.
