Default Bobcat Question

Can I use a bobcat & one oxycon to do boro?

A Bobcat can be used with one of the larger oxycons to do boro or 2 of the smaller ones.

One smaller one does not produce enough oxygen to work boro very efficiently.

Could you define "larger" and "smaller"? What lpm/psi works well?

I have a piranha and am eventually going to "upgrade" my concentrator, and would like to get one that will let me do some small boro work.

Now I know what to ask my DH for as an anniversary gift. Definitely going to need another oxy con.

Thanks for the info!

Ahhh. So I definately want a 10lpm machine. I don't have the room for two 5lpm machines.

Thanks!

It all depends on what you are wanting to do. What would be sufficient for small boro beads would not be sufficient for larger items.

This is true of all of the small sized torches out there (6-9 jets).

Using an M10 (5 LPM at 10 psi) and propane as the fuel:
The Beth Piranha (6 jets) could cut through a 3/4" rod of boro in 1:25.
The GTT Bobcat (7 jets) could do the same in 1:05.

So, it is clear that these smaller torches can indeed melt boro using a 5 LPM machine. I would use a smaller diameter rod for actual bead making, of course. If you are wanting to make larger boro beads, then a 10 LPM machine would be faster. You can never use less. If you can get a 10 LPM machine now (or two 5 LPM machines), then do it. But, if you can only get one 5 LPM machine now, and maybe another 5 LPM machine later if you see that you will need it, then that would be a good way to go, too.

The Bobcat, like all the other small sized torches, can run well on household pressure Natural Gas (1/4 PSI), as well, making it a great choice for a concentrator/NG set-up.
