Default Generator help please! "Pointed" oxygen candle flames

I finally hooked up the small holding tank to my Airsep AS-12A generator, and no more "breathing flame", yippee!!! BUT....there is still a problem (I think), and only because I don't understand what it means:

The blue-white candle flames are sharp and pointed, and stretch out a bit. It's doing this more now than before. Before I hooked up the tank the candles were pointed like that occasionally. I have learned the difference between a reducing flame, neutral, and oxidizing flame on my torch, it's a Mini CC. I don't have any problems making these adjustments. But this is different, the normally rounded tips on the little candles are "sharp" and stretch out. Is this a problem with too much psi?? My machine runs about 18 psi and the flowmeter ball is on 15. I have tried adjusting my propane to different settings between 5 and 8, and no difference there, candles are still pointed.

I'm making beads okay, but I'm wondering if this is bad for the torch, and/or if I'm likely working with a less than optimum flame. I want to start working with boro, so now I'm really wondering about the flame chemistry.

Try backing your oxygen pressure down - the holding tank acts to keep a constant pressure coming out of the machine, so you are seeing "full pressure" - the cones are long and sharp, and I'll bet you hear a fairly strong hissing sound as well.

Bring your pressure down to about 10 (from 15) and I'll bet you will see a noticable difference.

Yep, Mike is right. I'm on a Mini CC also and you get that effect when you turn the oxygen up. You just need to back it down.

Thank you for the help, Mike and Shawnette! I thought that was what was wrong. On the other hand, this is good to know for when I move up to a hotter torch that would need more psi.

I'll call the guys in NY (Airsep) and they will do a walk-thru over the phone with me to do the adjustments. I have the manual, but I don't recall it giving specific instructions for this. I'll check again.

Its also possible that you might not have all of the air replaced with oxygen in your holding tank.
