Default Cleaning cone beads?

I bought a cone shaped mandrel and have made a bead I quite like but am struggling with cleaning. Am I missing something? Is there a trick I should know about? I use foster fire bead release. Thanks. Lucy

I use a cordless Dremel and shaped diamond bits (you can get them in sets) to clean the inside. Different shapes will help you reach farther up into the cone. They take a bit of extra work to get all of the release out. Remember to use these bits under water or in a flowing stream from the tap to keep down dust and prevent overheating.

I use a Dremel and bits from Daniel Lopacki, the straight ones with the diamond coating at the bottom. I think it's the 1.25 that fit in a 1/16 bead hole.

He also has a decent looking standard bead reamer for $2.50 each.

Hope this helps,

Nolly

Another source for cylinder diamond bits is Widget Supply.

Six bits in a pack run $1.03 each. Or $1.29 as singles.

I just use a long skinny diamond bit and after soaking quite a while I clean it. I find that in my cone beads there is not too much bead release. After cleaning good I coat with wax inside.

Cheap white vinegar will dissolve the bead release. Best to use a plastic container and let the bead soak overnight after you have removed them from the mandrel. The vinegar is working when it smells bad. When the smell is gone just replace the vinegar with fresh.

The inside of beads can also be coated with clear nail polish.

I've left many, many beads in all colors of glass in the vinegar (100%) for up to two weeks and it has never etched the glass in any way. If you keep the bead on the mandrel it will cause the mandrel to corrode a bit but that comes off with a bit of sandpaper
