Opal Yellow
(Accidently put this post in the subcategory so I'm reposting it here).
Recently I've been trying to get Opal Yellow to strike. It seems like no matter what I do, it stubbornly remains whitish and ugly. In the picture below, I think I used Opal Yellow on the dots. There is this lovely pink in the center of the dots. I tried to recreate this in another bead and that Opal Yellow just wasn't doing its thing. I have the good stuff, too. With rings of pink on the end.
In the second bead, I also used Opal Yellow, but it wasn't doing anything (like striking), so I ended up putting pink on the bead. It has been a long time since I made the first bead, but I don't think I used pink for the dots. I know I used Opal Yellow.
But lately, when I use OY, it comes out dull and plain, either mostly white or a very pale yellow. Not at all what I want. There is some yellow in the second bead, but it's probably from another color underneath. I did use other yellows in the bead.
Any tips on how to strike it?

I have never had it go pink, although it has sometimes had a slight blush, and I never got a true yellow. Maybe it was a reaction to another color it touched, and not really a "strike"?

Thank you, Lorraine. I did search using several terms, but I got very little useful info on LE. I appreciate these links.
Maybe I'm overheating it.

Generally speaking, I have found that I need to let it cool enough before striking it in the tips of the flame. I get impatient and forget to let it cool to the "no glow" under the table before striking.

The new OYellow is NOTHING like the old OYellow.
You will make yourself crazy trying to "blush" the new stuff.
I HATE THE NEW OPAL YELLOW! HATE IT!
And, IMHO it is not worth the premium price.
I will buy no more!

You're very welcome. and definitely let it cool first before striking. As you can see by dates of the posts on Wetcanvas that color is a very old color and it is hard to come by and as stated the new stuff is just awful.
You can pull a gather and roll it into various pink frits and see if you like it better that way. Doesn't hurt to experiment BWAHHAHAHAHAH

While the new stuff isn't the same, honestly when I look at that first pic I think that is another dot of pink color on top, and not just opal yellow.

I have some of the old color, I think. It has rings of pink I can see on the end of the rod. In the first bead, I can't remember putting pink in it.
On the second bead, I definitely used pink because opal yellow wasn't doing anything.
It has been a while since I made the first bead, so maybe I did put pink, but I thought I remember thinking opal yellow was wonderful for striking so nicely.

I’m having problems striking OY also. When rounding the bead it struck but it wasn’t fully shape. Then when I finished shaping it lost the beautiful yellow color. I couldn’t get it back and gave up. Any ideas?
