Default Disco is dead,LONG LIVE DISCO!!!!

Imeant to put this under tutorials..I put the last one under boro on accident..hehehe

So some of you may have seen the drill tutorial, if not you should take a look. This tutorial covers mixing disco with clear to "water down" the disco and make it less "shocky". Disco is one of the most lumpy colors I have used, it likes to explode if you put it right in to the flame.

I started out with a big chunk of disco and warmed it in the kiln, if you don't it will blow up!I heated up a chunk of large rod as well(size doesn't matter much)

next I coat the large clear rod with the pre warmed disco

when it is covered with disco heat evenly and slowly in the back of the flame.

Marver smooth

coat with the second pre heated chunk of clear

heat evenly, marver smooth and grab a drill! The drill is in my right hand out of frame

twist er up

twist some more. start to pull

pull some more, cut to length, gather and pull some more

then you have non 'splody disco. Disco is dead,LONG LIVE DISCO!!!
top is un mixed disco bottom is mixed and watered down

Thank you sooooo much! Didi from GA told me it could be watered down as much as 10 to 1 and still look great. I really need to set aside a day for boro play.

At LEAST 10-1. This stuff actually looks much better watered down.

This is too cool, I love to see big glass makers come and show us what they do.
I am going to move this to the tutorial section so it doesn't get lost.
Loco can we play with disco when I come.

It also looks nice if you throw a color in the mix too. Some of my favorite combinations are Solara + Disco, Elvis + Disco, and Blue Moon + Disco.

That's a great tut man. I think GA released this stuff half mixed, just so it got attention. I always think of this stuff as halfway batched. It's just an ingredient and you get to be a mad scientist with it.

Thanks for the tut.

I'm going to try this with the bar of system 96 green adventurine I got from olympic color rods. Maybe diluting it in addition to encasing it will help bring out some of the sparkle.
