Default Salad Set Questions

Has anyone made a lot of the salad sets that are available? If so do you put anything in between the beads to cushion them?
I made a lot of them for Christmas and have only one customer that complained and said some of the beads broke. I anneal all of my beads ( a digitally controlled kiln) and have not had any other complaints. I also have been toting a few sets back and forth from my store to shows and have not had any break. The customer is an engineer and said he believed it was because the beads are stacked glass on glass and you should have something separating them.
I want to make sure that I don't have any problems in the future. If you have any ideas of what I could put in between with out having it take away from the look, please let me know.
Stacy

I always put a large-hole metal spacer bead in between the glass beads. Karen Thomas has a good selection of these that are washable and don't seem to tarnish at all:

Karen also has (or used to have) little rubber o-rings than are very inconspicuous.
Also, I make sure I have 'hand wash only' on the tag for those sort of things- don't like the thought of them going through a dishwasher.

Wouldn't that only make a difference if there was force on the glass - ie, you had the beads tightly on the wire, with no room at all for movement? - or if you had it tightly screwed down against the glass?

I would recommend the rubber washer O rings over metal.

Thanks for all of your input. Maybe it was too tight. That would explain why I have only had one problem. If I allow more room for movement.
I love the o-ring idea, however I don't like how they show. You can't always get the colors to match.
Thanks again

Nancy, I like to use Karen's assortment shown in this link:
http://www.karenthomas.us/catalog.as...41609&detail=1
and her larger flat spacers for the salad servers:

Anita, thanks so much for these links. I have some unfinished salad sets because I knew they needed something in between the beads, but wasn't sure where to get spacers with big enough holes. I'll try these!

I chose to make a single bead to fit without using extra parts. They fit snugly, but not too tightly.
