Default magnifier ???

I think i need a magnifier so i didnt sit so close to the flame. Ideally i'd like one that guards and also hangs in front of the flame (i have a barley box set-up so could affix from there). Does anyone have any recommendations of where one could buy such a thing?? or anyone have pics of what they use (my eyes turned 50 in Sept and are going down!)

thanks Kim

Something in me says that is a REALLY bad idea. I don't know why. But I'm sure someone will have a good idea for you. Maybe readers under your diddys would be a better choice?

Get some of those Optic (Optix?) lenses that stick on the inside of your glasses with moisture. They come in a lot of different magnifications and stick for a loooong time before having to be removed, cleaned and restuck on. About $15 to $20 per pair. I have and use about 6 or 8 pair here. very good

I got mine here. My beads improved dramatically after adding these to my diddys!

Default magnifying lamp

Kim,
When I started lampwork I knew I needed to get a magnifyer ; I have eye problems; well I found one at staples with a light http://www.staples.com/Black-Incande...P2240:CL142806. It clamps onto my table I have it postion infront of my torch, it also cuts down on some of the heat hitting me from the flame. It easliy moves when I pull stringers and such , I would hate to be without one !!! It has never melted from the heat of the torch. I do hope this helps!

I bought a magnifier from hairdresser supplies, I think they use them in nail salons too and mine clamps to my table. I bought the largest size magnifier which is about 6-7inches across with a light and it works great for agng eyes. I just wear my didy's while using it.

I stack my glasses. I have my regular glasses with clip on diddies and then over them, at the end of my nose, I wear a pair of cheap reading glasses. It's not the most glamorous look, but it works for me. This way, I don't have to worry about fogging up and when my vision changes, I just go back to the filling station and buy a stronger pair of reading glasses.

I have a needle workers headgear type. Again, not pretty but works for me. I wear bi-focals and diddie clip-ons thanks to my friend Carolyn Ramsey!

OPTX rock! I tried the clip-ons first, but I got weird reflections in between the didy's and the clip-ons. The OPTX are inexpensive, easy to place, and basically give you custom bifocals. I've had them for about 7 years, now, had to do one upgrade in strength, and life is good.
