Quick and dirty pics but you get the idea.

The real successes
Effetre olive green transparent.

Vetro Orange (translucent)

Semi Success.
Reichenbach Garnet. I think i needed to heat this slower. On the right.
EDP. Slower heat and thicker stripe of it needed. 3 beads on the left.

Pastel ink blue. Worked, but opaque.

Petroleum green Worked but opaque. lose the stripes.

More after etching.

A note for everybody to remember, the SIS really isn't SIS in the traditional sense. It's a fabricated stringer with silver leaf wrapped around it.

I tried making these a few years ago without too much success. I tried it again last night, still not happy with the result so I reread this thread. I think I need to change the ivory I'm using. I'll give it another go tomorrow.

One thing I noticed about the tut when I went back and read it again.

The base bead you make should be almost a disk shape before you apply the SIS and colored stringers. Then it should all get melted into a nice donut shape. It's the melt down into final shape that creates the lines.

Amber, you are truly one of the most giving lamp workers ever........and if your ears ring, please know that it's me talking to myself while making one of your beads saying, "Amber is on a Hot Head, slow down the flame" over and over and over!

I tried it again. The ivory bases I'm using just sucks the color in. I think I'm going to give up on this. I don't see me setting up my old hot head again lol.

Yes. Foil keeps the glass from spreading.

If your line is still dark, the stringer is too thick (should be 1mm or less) or the application of the silver-wrapped ivory stringer is too thick....try thinning it up.

The blue stringer is definitely 1mm or less. Not sure how to thin up the SIS as it's already a set diameter (pre-pulled). Do you mean try not to have it melt as much upon application? i.e. stay even more raised?

It's a light hand on the SIS - even at a set diameter, you can control the thickness of how it's applied. You leave it raised and the Lauscha on top raised until you do the final shaping and melt it all down. Somewhere in this post there's an illustration I did to show how it should look before you melt it... let me see if I can find it...

Aha - maybe...

I never saw this thread initially and I wish I had. All of my steel Blue rods are the grayer blue. It might explain why some people are having such a hard time with my Tiger tut because they're using the Opaque Teal thinking it's steel blue when there are apparently some variations in the pulls. My blue is exactly the color in Shrimp's post #26 - middle bead - my rods look exactly like Shrimp's rods in post #5.

Look here: http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=143632

I'm sending Yee a chunk of my Steel Blue to compare to hers because hers look bluer than mine in pics and hers are labeled Dark Teal.

Yee's rod of Steel Blue (labeled Dark Teal) is definitely different than mine. It has very distinct dark rings in the end while mine barely has rings at all. I'll be doing some experiments this week to see if I can make the Tiger bead with Yee's version of the glass.

Watching for results too! I'll be able to get on the torch today and will try Amber's samples to see if it's the rods or just me
