Carrie I picked up my first bundle of boro at Hot Times. I am almost embarassed to admint that I got a Barracuda on Thursday. I have such limited time to torch that I want to be able to crank up the heat and the Pirahna ain't cutting it.

And YES! I will be in Smiley's class.

I am warning you now Mr. Smiley, I have narcolepsy and fall asleep during demos, even while standing. It is NOT that you are boring.

I fell asleep making a murrini during Kristen Franten's class. I decided that making large murrinis was not for me.

I love the needle effect you got with that first Dichroic pendant. I haven't been able to get mine to do that yet.

There is some really neat work showing up in these galleries lately!
That's due to the type of dichro. Use any of the DA tical colors and it will do that.

I love these boro threads! Thanks for the compliments, and Eric, thanks for your color combo! I'll have to get some of that Green Envy. I love Momka's colors!

Here's a set I did yesterday. The color combo is my new favorite!

and a blue green set

Is there any danger of you falling over? Should we rig you some sort of safety harness. If you do fall asleep, can we draw on you with Sharpie? How much fun can we have with your condition? Inquiring minds want to know.

Hi Nancy,

No expert here on flowers but I think a thicker stringer just makes a "beefier" petal. These petals were made with a twistie that was kind of thick. To get it to implode all the way, I found I had to implode much longer than I thought I would have to. Was just stopping too soon on my earlier flowers and the petals did not reach all the way to the center of the flower. Following (I think Cosmo's suggestion), I also aim the heat at the face of the maria towards the end of the implosion which I think draws the petals in towards the center and also press down pretty hard when flattening the maria to get the petals to spread out and flatten out. Still not sure how to do that without the stamens getting kind of flattened out too??

Sandy

Sandy... it's better to do more softer pushes than one hard one. Just flatten more often.

Here's some stuff I've been working on for Tucson.

Just don't put my hand in a cup of warm water. LOL

I haven't fallen over yet, though I have had to pinwheel the arms to keep from toppling.

When I quoted you, it didn't quote my quote that you quoted, and I'm too lazy to go back and do it, so sorry if this is confusing.

I gotta change this winking/kissing smiley in my sig, it's outrageous. Look:

Smiley isn't too long winded. I don't think he did a demo that lasted an hour or more last year. Thank gawd!

Thanks for the idea. Carrie, you're in charge of the warm bucket of water. It's pretty important you keep it warm and ready.

OK, so keep the demos short and exciting! I can do that. Maybe I'll bring a squirt gun and hire Carrie to make sure everybody stays awake. I'm really excited to meet you all and see some of you fine folks I've already met.

I would mention how nice your urchins are, but I'm trying to keep the chatter to a minimum.
