Default Can I do 2 torches to one propane tank?

I tried to search but came up empty.

I want to have two torches setup, & will very seldom have both going at once. There will probably be an occasional time my sis comes out & we have them going together though. They will each have their own oxycon, so I'm good on oxygen.

Is there a way to hook both torches to the same propane tank?
If so does anyone have a diagram, or something to get me going in the right direction?
If I can do it, do I need to double the output on the propane regulator?
Any other information I need to know?

Yes. You need to add a T (or Y) after the regulator.

Thank you Shawnette!
I'm assuming I get that at a welding shop, will look for one.
Do I up the regulator pressure? I keep it around 5 now, maybe I will just play with it with both lit to see what kind of flame I get.

Depending on the torch, you probably won't need to change the pressure.

You can get the T or Y from the hardware store. I used a 1/4" brass T when I had 2 torches set up. Got it at Ace, but they also sell them at auto parts stores.

Yeah, I just have a y on mine. I can run a HotHead or a Cricket so I only have to worry about propane going to both and oxyben to one, but I can run them both at the same time. We probably got our Y @ Home Depot.

Thanks to both of you!

I have a y on my tank that has quick disconnects. I will get a picture. I like being able to quickly change out torches.

This is the one I have. I think I got it from Frantz, or from local gas supply place.

With larger torches the lines can become frosty and cause pressure drop much like working a hot head on the small disposable canisters.
It should not be an issue most of the time but its something to be aware of.

I have used a Bobcat and a Cricket and a Mid Range Plus on mine with no problem. Just for reference - I realize those are not particularly big torches.

If you have a larger torch like a Hellcat,Bravo,Phantom and up that calls for a significant pressure difference paired with a Smith, I think they recommend a separate regulators but you could still run off the same tank. Otherwise you run the chance of blowing out the Smith.

Thanks, I'll be running comparable torches, no big boys.

We run 4 torches off of each set of tanks. One side runs two Bravos and two minors. The other side runs 4 alphas.
On my table I had the Great White, an Alpha and a Minor. No problems mixing the sizes.

I'm finally getting to do this, just wanted to say thank you again to everyone who answered, as well as Corrie for having this site. I am going to go get it either this weekend or Monday, and will finally get it done!

I got one at Airgas, & DH hooked it up for me while I was at the movie yesterday.

Oh, and the guys in there seem intrigued by the glass thing, because they remembered me from buying tungsten rods months ago, and a tube of TIG rod before that and asked about it. Some day I'm going to stop by & leave them a few samples.
