Black deposit on bottom of HotHead

Hi all,

don't know whether this is common or even normal, but Google didn't give me an answer. When I unscrewed that MAPP gas canister last weekend (it had been on there since October and took a vize grip to take it off) I noticed that there was a black round spot (about 2-3 mm) on the otherwise shiny metal at the bottom of my HotHead where one screws in the gas canister or connection. I tried to wipe it off but found it was hard stuck on. I did manage to get part of it off with a with a rag wound around a mandrel, and may try to get the rest off the same way.

Any idea what this deposit is, and whether it's normal and/or whether it has to be gotten rid of?

Could be anything, brass tends to corrode in humid environments or it may be a chemical reaction caused by something that came in contact with the brass and brass reacted to it causing the discoloration..... IF its inside connection where brass parts are exposed to propane/MAPP/propylene gas, yes its going to turn dark.

I'll try to clean it out without getting the surface scratched.
Yes, it's right where the canister or hose connector screws in.
It looks like a deposit of something.
