Default Check ruby flash glass question

I have some vases made of ruby flash glass. It got broken, and it was from my dads collection. I wanted to make some beads out of it to give to family members. Well I started to melt it down and it seems to be closer to boro than 104, maybe even a little higher melting temp. I was mot able to get it to round out at all and the color went to a lite blue and did not stay red. Any ideas why it went blue? As well as what kind of glass it might be?

If I remember correctly (very iffy these days), the flash is sprayed on so it won't survive the flame from the torch. No idea what the glass is...best guess would be lead glass.

Did a little online research, and apparently the ruby flash glass items were made with either gold ruby glass or copper ruby glass. Maybe yours is the copper based color, which might explain the blues: http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/...059/ruby-glass

Thanks for all the replies. I am torching on a mega minor with oxy con. I thought it might be an issue with reduction as well but did not seem to make a difference either way. The blue is real light like turquoise so it might be copper.

Look at stained glass under the link Rebecca posted. I have lots of the stained glass and the coating is so very thin I don't think it would stand up to a flame. It wears off with usage and scratches off.
