Those look awesome. If you place the brass directly onto silver glass or even some non-silver glass, it will give it the dark look. If you sandwich it between clear, you will get gold look. Even some clears will give different results.
Glad to hear Becky, can't wait to see what you do

These beads are gorgeous. Do you all use repiratory protection when working with metals?

I do not. I don't actually put the metal in the flame so there should be no fumes. Anyone else? That is a good question.

I just use my normal ventilation, and like you encase the metal before I add heat.

Likewise, normal ventilation and do not put the brass in the flame. I have never noticed any smell from putting the frit on the hot glass either.

Devardi Glass also sells it. Their store only mentions putting it on the outside with some Borax to make it ball up on the surface. I'm not sure about fumes when using it that way, but it is a source for the frit. Couldn't link to the Brass Frit so you'll have to scroll down the page a bit.

My guess is it's the zinc in it that makes it bubble by oxidation.

If they're any size at all I think it might be at least part of it. Do you have a picture to see how many bubbles you have (to estimate the frit used)?

i'm guessing that doesn't help. after all...bubbles introduce stress into the glass.

Yes. I'm just guessing out gassing of the brass when heated to glass melting temps.
