Murrini storage
I have a question about storing your murrini.
Back story, I love murrini, but don't use it as much as I would like because I forget to get it out ahead, and can't find what I want in the mish mash drawer of bags (and there is some I know I won't do justice to yet and I've been afraid to use it but I'm determined to change that) so.....
I was in Harbor Freight yesterday and bought a container that I think is going to be much more user friendly than my "all the little baggies in this drawer are 104 murrini" system.
http://www.harborfreight.com/hand-to...ers-68238.html
I am writing on masking tape a hint of the murrini (maker or striking, etc) & putting that on the back wall of each bin. I had taken it all out of the little baggies, but now I'm wondering if I need to go back & put it all (or mostly all) of it back in the bags so if I drop one, etc. it will be easier to keep track of what is what.
So my question is, do you mix your murrini on purpose, keep it in individual secure containers of some type, loose but generally separate unless something happens to mix it, etc?
OK, the other thought I had was to make a small bead and put one of the murrini on it, then put that bead into the bin with the murrini. I hate to "waste" them, but maybe I could just call it practice & not waste. Anyone do this?

I have a murrini storage problem to. The toolbox idea is a good one. I keep all my murrini chips in plastic tackle boxes like the one you showed from harbor freight. If I don't they get lost as fast as I make them. I throw a few chips up on the burner to make stuff with and the rest go in the box.

This burner is an old beast that was on sale at a thrift store. I heat all my murrini to 950-1000 degrees. That old burner is a hotplate from the 60s I don't recommend it to anyone. You can get a scientific hot plat that is safer and hotter.

Wow, Smeeth! Those are some awesome murrini!
I use an index card file; I have all my murrini in small baggies, and have each style indicated by a divider (i.e., "Skulls", "Fish", etc.). When I did GlassCraft, I took 3 Card Files which contained more than 8,000 slices, so it's definitely a space saver. Of course, my murrini slices average 5-6mm, and I think Mr. Smeeth's are larger diameter than mine. (LUCKY! ) But I've found this method keeps them clean, separated and easy to pull out and put back after use...

8000 slices wow. That would be alot of boxes. card boxes 3/5? The card boxes and baggies sound way more organized. Your wizrd of oz murrini rocks DeAnne.

I bought a couple of cases, one larger and one smaller, with little containers in them. I found they work very well and take up little room. I have a serious addiction to Lori & Kim's murrini as you can see
I'm keeping them grouped by artist and in the case of L&K's, each theme is seperately labelled. L&K's labels are great because they peel off the bags and I can cut them down to fit on the lid of each container. When I start making my own, then I will likely keep them sorted as per style or colour.
I use my smaller one for CZ and some copper punchouts I bought from Katie. Works well. My favourite thing about these containers is I flip a lid and everything is there for you to see. I bought the smaller one at Artistry in Glass and the bigger one at Lee Valley.
(Sorry the pics are so big!!)

Wow, you are both my heroes!
I did go out & put the pieces I'd taken out of the bags back into either bags or little bitty plastic containers I had. I just had a vision of me knocking the bin down & murrini flying everywhere, never to be found again, so they're corralled again, but still in the divided trays.
I decided that for my experiments in murrini making, I will go ahead & make a bead to put in there with them. More practice for me, and will give me an idea of if I want to use them in the future.

Here's a photo of Kim's "retirement fund" stash of murrini:
By the way, she has another drawer full, just like this one. Hoarder.

I use a set of mini drawers, with the dividers in.
I can put 2 kinds of murrini in each drawer and I can pull the drawer out one handed to access the murrinin if I havent planned ahead.
They're a very small set of drawers that came with lots of screws and washers. I chucked them out and kept the drawers.

Iesha, those you are using are they a metal that if you put a magnet on the bottom of each little container the container would stick to it, and then put them on a wall.
I am thinking that would be a good idea for mine, where did you get those containers. I am thinking maybe if they where screwed onto the wall and the containers having a little round magnet on the bottom I can get mine in a better place. I am still redoing my shop.
