Default Copper wire question about adding to bead

I was thinking, we add silver wire to beads using a fine guage of wire, melting it to the surface. Can we do this with copper? I have some very fine wire and was wondering if anyone has done this or is there a big no no why I shouldn't try??
Thanks for the help!!

I use copper wire in my beads sometimes, altho i usually make shapes and encase it. It doesn't look very pretty before it's encased, so I'm not sure if you would like it's effect left on the surface but as far as I know there isn't any safety reason to not do it. Maybe you'll be able to figure out how to get rid of the firescale and make it work.

Pure copper is fine, I use it extensively. Just try to encase it asap before hitting it with the flame.

Could I skip the encasing and put it in a pickle to clean the copper after annealing?
I really suck at encasing so I try to avoid it LOL

I like the idea of trying a pickle to clean it... if you try it and it works, post pics!

I seem to remember Teresa - Lavender Creek saying that copper is even more toxic than silver or gold when it hits the flame so be sure to have really good ventilation and/or wear a respirator.

Default my beads LOL

Ok, well not what I was expecting but I will try more.
First with turquoise, some of the wire seemed to melt in or away but left some dots
Then with vetro ivory, turned all dark but you can see the copper really great after the pickle!

then with sandstone, my single bead pic didn't come out but you can see in the group shot, I added a touch of silver wire too.

Scuse the shape of them, I was just messing around and didnt' worry to much about shaping....LOL

Starlight, I'm going to go see yours now, thanks for the link!

Houkje, very pretty!
I was looking to NOT have to encase, my encasing stinks! Yours is very nice tho!!

After they came out of the kiln I put them in my pickle.........Now, mind you my pickle is vinnegar and kosher salt, works awesome!
Then to some baking soda water mix and then they sat in coke for a bit.....not too long tho.

Interesting! I wonder if you would get pretty turquoise on white like you do burning off copper leaf on white? or green if you do the same on opal yellow... might be worth trying if you're going to experiment further

Those are so cool!
Thank you so much for sharing these.
It may be a long time before I can play with my spindly copper wire but now I know I am glad my friend gave it to me and will hang onto it until I get the chance!

They came out great Sue - that really worked.
