Custom shape mandrel
Hi to you all,
I'm looking for a place where I can order a custom shape mandrel. I'd like to have a mask shape (like masquerade mask) see link:
http://www.vivomasks.com/collections...masks-for-prom
Has any one ever seen something like that ?
thank you in advance for your help
Cathie

Cathie, do you mean a custom, mask-shaped 'mandrel' or a 'press'? It would be awfully hard/impossible to get the glass off a mask-shaped mandrel.

Or perhaps you are looking for a slumping mold for the kiln?

Places to look
abrimagery.com has some molds
artcoinc.com has some graphit push molds from weaver industries.
I think weaver uses a CnC mill so it should be posible to custom order one.
To be honest it sounds like one of Carlo Dona's stamps.

You may be able to shape your own graphite. Arrow Springs used to sell scrap leftover graphite and I believe it can be shaped with a dremel tool.

Just be sure to use a dust filter, do it out side probably with a fan to blow it away from you and or use a HEPA filter.
The dust can be really fine and it gets every where.
A water bath is another option but you will want to dry it slowly and thoroughly so it doesn't boil when in contact with hot glass
