Should this have read cracked from my last batch? Angelique

I had cracks form along specific colors. I've heard that referred to as checking. I could be wrong. Either way, the count is four. Another one bit the dust last night. Two days out of the kiln.

Usually by checking, I mean 'planar cracking or crazing along a plane or interface between glass surfaces', (it almost looks like extreme sparkle) rather than one or two small incompatibility cracks....which also suck.

my biggest issue is the mouthpieces...i can never get them even, always lopsided a bit.
my next purchase is diamond shears, i got to use a friends pair and i just ended up necking the mouthpiece down and then snapping it off with Dshears. so far that has proven the most reliable for me. just need more money!

btw, do you know if the $35 pair of shears that mtn glass sells is worth it? mostly i've found that if i buy cheap i buy twice.

Looks like your mouthpeice is your problem mainly. Their not that bad though ive done worse lol. Try blowing out the mouth piece before you start the rest of the shaping. You just need to keep trying just be loose when you make them.

Those are for cheaters lol. I tear my mouth pieces it can be tricky but i always feel good when they turn out well lol practice practice its always better to take the hard road you learn to do more with less and you get this since of pride for your work cause you did it with less then the other guy did it with. Also i work on a midrange/minor i have to say i use that minor for everything. I just use the midrange for large vessels and making tubing mainly alittle to much umph for me sometimes lol

i've got the premix, not the minor on top. a bit different in that the "regular" minor burner is the same as the nortel surface mix minor?

or is yours the premix topfire?
i bought it with a premix for fuming...so much easier/better results with a premix i've found.

sure, diamond shears may be "cheating" but really what the hell is cheating? whatever works, works, whatever you've got to do, ya gotta do. once i snip and crack off with the shears and flame polish you really can't tell the difference.
i still try to tear open every 3rd piece but i almost always fudge it, then the piece needs to be saved, which sucks. this is my income right now

funny thing, Nortel calls the midrange their "most oxygen efficient" torch. i believe i read that right on Nortel's website.

the mega minor i had seemed pretty damn inefficient on oxy. the midrange isn't all the great either...crank it up and it sucks it down good. the premix is very conservative though. when my holding tank goes dry (when i'm not on tanked) and i'm using the midrange, i'll switch over to the premix (assuming i'm on boro) and it'll build back up. works great that way.

although i'm supposed to be getting the new "mini-15" (15psi, 6lpm) to go with the ex15's. hopefully with that added on i won't bog it down.

I've got a Nortel Red Rocket and a Bravo. The center fire is similar to the minor, the outer fire is huge. The design is good but it is not state of the art. I'm not saying that the Nortel torches are bad or sub par, just that they are oxy hogs. Starting out on tanks I watched my high pressure gauge like a hawk. Now I don't worry, my time is worth more than the oxy I use, and I have more than one tank now.
