The other thing about the Schott glass is that it may appear to be solidified when it goes into the kiln but is actually still ever so slightly mobile. It has some odd working properties, like flashing from just soft to barely controllable runny liquid very suddenly when you hit just the right temp. It makes for great vacuum encasing but can be a real booger to manage otherwise.
