Finally showing off after 5 years
My studio is nothing new, I've been working in my basement for the past 5 years now, but the fact that it's CLEAN is totally new! I still have a few things I want to do here and there, but for the most part I'm thrilled! My DH spent his entire Saturday helping me out, running back and forth between various hardware stores finding supplies, hanging stuff up, etc. Ain't he great?!?
Some info: the cabinets are ones we removed from our kitchen when we remodeled (now just covered with plywood), and the bookshelves were originally in the dining room. I use natural gas and an oxy concentrator, so no worries about tanks. It is a daylight basement, but I think it would be difficult to connect to tanks outside. And thanks to all the help I received in another thread, I finally have sheet metal covering for my torching area (thanks everyone, especially Christina, who offered to send me some sheet metal from VA! What a sweetie)! There is still a lot more space than is showing in the pics. Behind me is what I refer to as "The Dorm Room": it has my husband's drum set, an old love seat, entertainment cabinet, TV, an XBox (our 360 is in the living room upstairs with the big TV), and my DDR pad. I also have another table near the drum set that holds my sewing machine and piles of fabrics, and another work bench houses my husband's gun cleaning gear (he likes to shoot defenseless targets). Basements are a rare thing in NC, so I really lucked out when we bought this place!

...And a close up of my "inspiration area"
Here's a close up of my artist's bead collection and inspiration wall. Most of the post cards are from the one ISGB gathering I went to, back in 2003.

nice space, looks clean....i dont really agree with carpet in the work area, concrete is best.
i would seriously put a hood on your ventilation with sides and a back wall to direct the air flow past your head, the torch then out.
i have worked on a ventilation like that [just a pipe above the area] and it really doest have the correct air flow esp if fuming. the fumes will just go right into your face. have you smoke tested?

In general, it does look like a great space. But please read this article about ventilation:

Can i move in with you? Can wait to build my studio. Thinking of saving and getting one of those "buildings usa" metal sheds. but I really want electricity and running water as i'm a silversmith too. No basements here, Too Swampy!
