First good boro beads -- I'm happy!
The ones worth showing that is -- these are probably the 4th time I've tried beads -- I keep burning thru the mandrels and dropping them on the table, LOL! I did go to the welding shop here today (Nexair) and got foodgrade 316 welding rods, he also threw in some 308s for me to try, I'm assuming they will not hold up as well. See what you think, I would love some feedback. The main problem I'm having besides burning thru metal is bead release flakes, any tips? Lana

And you should be happy! Those are nice!
Which bead release are you using? I use fusion and like it. There is a thread in the boro forum about the best bead release for boro. It might be worth checking out.
I've burned through a few mandrels myself. I hate when the whole lump suddenly drops off.
Keep posting!

great beads! Try 2.4 mm mandrels and sludge plus release - the grey one.

Oops, I like Dip N Go Sludge. Yep, sometimes it flakes if I'm working on a bead for a long time, but they all do. I'd dip it and flame dry it; it seems to hold up longer. At least I think it does, because I haven't made more than 10 beads in the past 6 weeks, yikes.

Awesome first pendants.... way to go, I'm impressed!
a lot!
Jo
people laugh at me because I'm still using the "pink slipper" bead release, but I love it and have never had any problems. Don't feel bad about the burning through the mandrel thing, I've been doing boro for 6 months and that will go away eventually! lol... just keep telling yourself "under or over" the flame, don't put your mandrel directly in the flame.
Nice job!

Thanks! I finally figured out today that it works best to heat the BEAD not the mandrel. I've also gotten to the point I can tell if I need to move away from the flame for a few seconds to cool the mandrel by the heat color of the mandrel.

Its pretty common to see some flaking if your torch is pushing out a ton of O2, no to mention your beads are good sized.....try working the core large enough to allow room to build without overheating the mandrel.
~Carmel and butterscotch is good stuff
