Default corks for small vessels

Recently, I have been working on small vessels both the blown type and the type made on a steel wool core. I like the look of the small cork closure. I went to Michael's as suggested here but they were too big. Then it stuck me. I have all these skin punches that need to go to surplus at work as we have started to use the disposable type. They might work. And of course they work perfectly the 4 mm one makes a perfect cork for a vessel made on the a 1/8 mandrel and a 5 mm makes a great one for a 3/16 mandrel.

Skin punches are used to take biopsies from skin to check for abnormal cells like melanoma. They are also called punch biopsies.

I just can't picture what this looks like. I guess I would have to see a picture to figure it out.

Mary, can you show us a picture of one in a vessel? I followed the link above and even Googled "biopsy punch" and I still don't get it! I can see where the metal part would fit inside a vessel neck, but all the ones I saw had long plastic handles?

I think she's using the punch to punch out a smaller piece of cork. Kind of a circle punch tool.
Just a guess~

Default corks

This is not the best vessel but I think you will get the idea. You can cut the cork as long as you want.

For corks, I recommend the following:

http://pilotvials.com
http://www.mjacobandsons.com/

There are different grades of corks available, and it's always a good thing to ask what grade they are before buying a bunch.
