Default To Prevent Scratches When Bezel Setting Stones

If your stone is not round, trace it onto the thick paper (cardstock, etc) before placing it into the bezel setting. Cut the shape out of the cardstock with scissors and place over your jewelry piece as shown.

You can also place a small piece of masking or painter's tape on the stone itself.

I do something similar when I'm wire riveting a bead to a ring. I use a couple layers of saran wrap. It gives the glass a little protection from my hammer.
