Default Help! The contractor is going to be building the bench tomorrow. What height??

The contractor is going to be building the bench tomorrow and I am not sure what height to have it built. My son is 5'11" tall. I bought him a Creation Station, so he is going to want to rest his elbows on that. He would like to be able to stand to make beads most of the time, and yet have the option of sitting if he gets tired of standing. Any suggestions on height of bench would be so gratefully appreciated!
Thanks,
Gail in Wisconsin

38-40 inches is the standard. Standing is the best for when he gets into sculpture and marbles.

I set my bench at standing height (where my natural waist falls) and then bought a used drafting chair (the tall kind that is adjustable) so that I could sit if I wanted to.

I third the recommendation for building it at standing height. You can get an adjustable chair if you want to sit, but it's nice to be able to do both.

I built mine so you can either sit with drafting stools or stand... I can go an measure the actual height if you need that... good luck!

Standing height for sure -- like a kitchen counter; much more versatile. Then get the barstool like the others mentioned.

my bench is 36 inches. I put my torch on a flat, wide piece of brick that raises it another 2 inches or so. Ive worked on a few benches that were taller, and its not for me. im 5'10, and 36 inches just seems to be perfect for tools and whatever else is on the bench to grab.

I do like my torch a little higher, i hate having to bend over. I also stand when i work, and havent tried sitting.

I have a standing bench also. I'm not sure of the height, but I'm 5' 4 1/2" and it goes up to my chest. This way I can just lean and rest my arms on either side of the torch without bending over.

If your son is getting a standing bench, can the contractor just measure him at the height he wants it?
