? for you computer guru's

I have a friend in Greece that has been sending me some photo's with an attachment my computer does not recognize, well, neither do I for that matter. Instead of ending with .jpg they are ending with .rar

Does anyone know what that is or how I can open the attachment?

.rar files are compressed and will need a specifc program to open them..I use BitZipper
