Question What is this?

What is this? Two are thin, the lower one is quite thick, works like a magnifying glass.. It was in a scientific glasd lowers shop I bought out several years ago. My guess is an older type of polariscope?? But why the extra lenses?

They dont look like they have any polarized coating at all so they cant be from a polariscope unless they are secondary lenses. Not sure what they are.

They could be from the kind of polariscope that has separate tint plates on a swing arm. Like this one-

I looked through one at Urban, that thing was huge, but I don't remember exactly how it worked. I have more of a polarized film and cheap light box budget. lol

I remember seeing those used as lids when boiling off gases out of liquids.

you put the curved side down and as the gas condenses on it the droplets run down the curve and fall back into the boiling liquid instead of with normal curved upwards lids where the condensate runs to the out side edge and pours on to the counter when you open the top.

This keeps acids from dribbling out side the containers and creating a hazard.

Clearly they're contact lenses for Cylops.

A friend of mine just dismantled an OLD "big screen" TV and he found some glass lenses in them that looked a lot like what you are showing.
