Grapes Galore 96 frit on 96 - REDUCED = metallic purple?!!!
This is Glass Diversions' "Grapes Galore" swirled into Clear 96 to make a more purple swirl bead, then the same frit rolled on top of the bead and barely melted in. Accidentally reduced during torch heat increase - and WTH ... it took on metallic purple sheen??? (pic doesn't do this shiny effect true justice) I didn't know that any 96 glass was capable of metallic sheen when reduced. Anybody else seen this? I liked my "accident" bead so much that I made a slew of them and they all came out gorgeous when reduced. So, I can't figure out if this base bead Clear 96 is System 96 or Reichenbach but I know it is in a very long rod group wrapped with saran wrap at the base about diameter of my pinky finger and came from Olympic (it's just been a while since I ordered).
Anybody else experience something like this with either this particular frit or with any other 96 frit???? = happy accident!

There are actually quite a few COE 96 colors that reduce to a metallic sheen.
Iris Green, Iris Gold, Iris Yellow, Aqua Silver Blue, Iris Light gold to name just a few from Reichenbach.
Then there are all the "Lustre" glass colors from Gaffer Glass. All COE 96 and reducing to a metallic sheen. For example Gold Lustre, Black Lustre, Yellow Lustre, Jade Green Lustre, Purple Lustre, and so on.

Judith - thank you thank you - now I know what I'm going to order for my Christmas present to play with - Gaffer Glass, I've never tried it! I have tried a little of the Iris Gold and forgotten about it - thanks for the reminder that I need to play with that a little more too!
Merry christmas!

Those are lovely!!
Actually quite a few (I've found almost all the transparents) of the 96COE furnace glass reduces. It's because of the metal content in them. This is one of the many reasons 96 furnace glass is different from other 96coe's (like Urorboros). And definitely the Iris's & Lustre's like Judith said.
Try reducing some of my other frit blends, too! You'll be happily surprised.
If your clear came from Olympic, I think its probably Reichenbach as I'm not aware they sell Uroboros.
Happy Torching,
Robin

Most of the 104 purples will reduce as well, as will some of the teals.

You have to use a lot of oxygen and work further out in the cooler more oxygenated part of your flame to prevent the reduction when using the violets and pinks.
