Default NEW CATEGORY: Presses

People have been asking about 'half-presses' for some time now. With almost 200 beadrollers, a lot of the missing sizes and shapes are getting filled, so it was time to add the Press division, with a bead-pressing action instead of a bead-rolling action.

These first two 'bead-presses' turned out better than I hoped, and are the largest in the lentil/cabochon shape. I added the feature of making the cavity a bit recessed, allowing you to get down into the cavity just enough to form a symmetrical round shape, as well as a symmetrical dome. Now your 'round' cabs can truly be 'round'.

On the other hand, the slight recess allows for a lentil to be made with a mandrel-formed bead. The slight recess is just enough that a mandrel slot is not needed, giving you the advantage of offsetting the hole if you want. Offsetting a flat laying bead helps it to hang nicely in a necklace. Simply start with a round bead, press one side, turn over to press the other side, rinse and repeat.

I'm excited!
Hope you still have some at the Gathering. I won't get there until the weekend.

Add glass to the end of a cabochon mandrel, then shape in the cab cavity.
