Vetrofond Mauvelous tips
As requested, I am posting some of the things I've learned about this color - even though it's discontinued. Frantz still has some, but it won't be available much longer, I'm sure...
I've been playing with its reaction with assorted frit mixes, and love the results! I've been making lots of picks for fairy gardens, and mushrooms are a staple. I've sold quite a few to coworkers, so I keep making more!
it's like getting an ivory reaction, without the black that often happens. And it can be very shiny when reduced. Most of these were heavily heated, quickly shaped (not overworked) and popped in the kiln. I've found on other beads, if I overwork it, I lose the cool definition with the Mauvelous. With the mushrooms, it's easier to shape after it's glowing by holding it upside down and letting gravity do its thing - with minimal marvering. Also, because of this process, I can get EDP that's in some of the mixes to behave well for me. Finally!

I make the base of the mushroom with dark ivory and only put a layer of Mauvelous on top of the cap. I use a twistie with stripes of Hades or Intense Black over Dark Ivory that I wrap under the cap for the gills. Check out the cool reaction where the Dark Ivory meets the Mauvelous on mushroom #1!
I'll be playing with it more and share here. I think my favorite part of playing with hot glass is how it reacts with other glass. Makes up for flunking Chemistry, I guess...

Hmmm...I really like the watercolor frit on mauvelous. My car is getting emission tested today, and if all is good I'm going to make an order. I'll let fate decide! I'm taking that I'm on a Bethlehem Bravo also as a sign, ha ha! Thanks for posting this.

I love the reactions that you've gotten, Michelle!! I wish that the air weren't like soup down here - I'd be dragging my torch out in a heartbeat now that I'm allowed to play again but it's too humid to breathe  I think that my favorites so fare are Atomic Mayhem and Iron Mountain Raku! Love the reactions!!!

I haven't abandoned this thread! I passed the emission test last week and celebrated by ordering some glass (including Mauvelous) and will torch tonight or tomorrow and post my results.

Hey Michele
I tried out a few mushrooms inspired by your. I didn't have the marvelous glass on 2 of them but substitute a purple instead. Still have some tweaking on them but had fun doing them. Thanks for the tips.

Those look great Becky! Aren't they fun to make? I'm still trying out various frit with the Mauvelous to see if I get any more surprises. I'll post those here when I run across them.
They really work selling to folks who may not normally buy beads, but enjoy gardening or growing plants. I can barely keep up with coworkers who want them.

Finally, huh.  So I played around, made some not so remarkable frit beads, but these sets I played around with some silver stringer and got a very interesting result with some DH Triton powder when I burned it past the point of no return for reducing. The one with three dots just went kind of rusty (I like it) but the one with seven dots got some deeper shades of rust and some purple in there too (though I sloppy dotted the clear on that one, dipping it in the Triton powder before putting it on the bead). I think throwing a bit of purple enamel in the mix would be interesting.
I also think I am going to try some super fine sis on it, as you get an interesting purple in the reaction between the Mauv and the sis. So many plans/options, and I'm so easily distracted, ha ha...

Those look really good! I've had plenty of "meh" results with it, but the great ones are so much fun I keep trying new ideas. I'll have to try the SIS on it as well...

I think fritting Mauv and mixing it with ivory frit (and frit made from sis leavings as well) over a base of another color would be interesting too. Typing this so I don't forget lol...

More Mauvelous. The first pic is half sis, half purple enamel. I like how the enamel clouds the Mauv.
The second pic is silvered ivory shards on Mauv.
In the third pic, the one front and center has some smashed up silvered ivory stringer leftovers and the ends of some dark ivory (all in frit form). There are large pieces of Mauv frit that were added last, but they didn't do much. I was hoping for that nice purple outline, it didn't happen.

Oh I can't wait to get the beads out of the kiln in a bit! CGbeads, who makes the beadroller's, has frit too. I bought several blends and tried one called Manhattan today on mauvelous and wow they looked pretty. Hoping they look as good or better coming out. I will post a pic
