EDP?
So, I was browsing the Frantz site, much like looking thru the Burpee's seed catalog anticipating spring. I looked for good old EDP, but did not see it. So, they're not making it anymore? Guess I have to keep my stash for something fabu. Anyone using a current glass that gets similar odd reactions?
Tired of winter,

I would think that Frantz is just out of stock... not that it is not being made any longer.

Sorry but you will not find anymore of the "good old EDP". The new stuff just isn't the same. Hang on to your old stash for your special creations.
The newer EDP is okay but for us oldies we know better...

Old EDP had a high lead content, haven't looked at the new stuff but that would make a difference in the way it acts.

Yeah, I was actually using it to fume with 'til Vince convinced me of the error of my ways.

Thanks for your replies...yeah, I'm talking about the screaming orchid color that we oldies used to make tie dye beads. It was so much fun.

It is not an easy clear cut answer. The new stuff is just not the same. About 5 years ago, and I could be wrong about the years, it came in different. The color was not the same and it properties were not the same. The old reactions just were not there. It did not behave the same way and made certain designs impossible. I can not tell the difference just by looking at the rods, I have to melt them to see the difference.

Thanks Heather. I just wanted to know so I could establish if the EDP I have is "old stuff."

5 years, is that right? I noticed a difference lately but I don't buy it that often, my other stuff is 5 years old already i guess.

so I've never had much of the "old" stuff, and I've also never been impressed with my stringers to get the batik effects. Does that mean those can't be done with the "new" EDP that is on the market now? Or was it just my inexperience at the time and I should try again...?

If your EDP...#254 is labeled Moretti then it is probably the old stuff, if it is from Effetre it is probably the newer stuff....or there abouts. Some people never label so....you may never know what you have until you work it up.
Moretti morphing into Effetre is a whole nother can of worms. A lot changed after that.
Then we had another big change when the price of gold and some rare earth minerals and elements in glass color recipes skyrocketed, some rare earths of course when they are gone they are gone and some glass colors as we have known them disappear with them.
They try to recreate using newer recipes but they just do not have the same tonalities or work the same, and we lost our best pinks and lately the changes in emission controls in manufacture in the U.S.A. caused BE to retire some of our favorite colors and probably more is to come...
Here is a link to EDP information and colors. It is like Ghee from CIM ( one of my favorites by the way!) how you work it decides on the colors you get. EDP made it's appearance back when I was on Wetcanvas a lot in early 2003-2005 and EDP showed up around 2001 I think....Link below
