Default Connection questions

I just had to buy new hoses, propane regulator, check valves and flashback arrestors. For some strange reason the propane regulator won’t connect to a propane can. It just doesn’t fit. It looks like my old one and I have always used the same propane cans. The vendor highly recommended that I remove the barbs from my minor torch and use their converter pieces so I am able to screw in check valves. Nothing that they have sent me fits. They’re not even close. I’ve been using the same torch and propane cans for years. It shouldn’t be this hard.
Can anybody help?
Should I just send everything back and try a different vendor for everything?
Thank you.

That's odd. It really shouldn't be that hard! Did you use a glass supply vendor or gas supply?

Propane is threaded backward from oxygen. Are you turning it the right way? Fittings should be standard size. (Sorry if that seems like an insult to your experience and intelligence!)

That is very odd. I’ve never had an issue like that. I don’t actually know what check valves are. Either that or I’m having an embarrassing senior moment. If you don’t solve it with help from this forum I definitely would send it back.

Any chance the threads are damaged?

They make them with a kind of soft metal to ensure a good seal when they are connected but it makes them vulnerable to the slightest bump.

Do you still have an old one to compare to the new one?
