Red face Help with Effetre Red Transparent Glass

Hi There!

I purchased a pound of striking red transparent Effetre glass and cannot seem to get it to turn red for anything on my hot head torch. I had Vetrofond striking red before and it seemed to just turn red when I heated it.

Any tips on getting this glass to turn red would be much appreciated!

Thanks!
Sarah

Shape your bead and let it get cool.
Waft it in the very tip of your flame for a while and it *should* turn red.
I'm not on a hot head but it took me a while to get to that point with the minor.
Good luck with it Sarah.

What Anna said! I'm on a minor and it still takes a while, sometimes you look at it and think come on strike already

Thanks so much Anna and David! I'm glad to hear that there is hope for this glass and that I just didn't get a bad batch.

Try this...
Don't make anything just melt the end of the rod into a ball, let it cool and then try to strike it
