I'm using a new etching solution that I mixed myself and it might be a bit strong, so I etched the colored areas a bit more than I intended. But it doesn't matter, I love these beads. The first set is comprised of two beads each of your recipes; the second set is comprised of two beads each my base selections.

I took a little break between sets 1 and 2. When I came back I thought I was making all my beads the same size... clearly I was confused

Amber, it's a great tutorial. Thanks again for sharing your techniques with us.

They look great!!! You were definitely getting the purples to pop nicely and the silver looks fab, too!

I think they look lovely, Becky! I really like the shell! Etching is just for removing some of the rusty tones, shiny looks good.

Yes - very close...try even less frit and see what happens - it should be just a light sprinkle where only a few of the frit pieces is melted in around the bead.

Avery - FANTASTIC! You nailed it! May I ask how you got the purple to really pop on the minor?

Thanks Avery!

Her trick was to follow the tutorial but to roll the bead over a small amount of frit one more time before final melt so you get both layers of color - rusts and purps.

Oh, yes!

I read all 7 pages before I started, and I think - hope - I got it right the very first time!

We shall see in the morning whether it's Christmas or Halloween!

Thanks for clarifying that Amber. I'm on a minor as well and haven't been able to get anything like Avery's purples. Just alot of rust. But then, I'm on NG too. I'll give her way a try next.

Avery: gorgeous gorgeous earrings!

NG has been a problem for some though I have no clue as to why it makes a difference. I think reversing the steps helps, too...silver on bottom, frit on top.

I think this is a great tutorial. I have been practising and these are what I got.
The first set are Opal Yellow

Frit Bead Set 1 by Frecklepie, on Flickr

The second set are Copper Green

Frit Bead Set 2_1 by Frecklepie, on Flickr

And the third set are, from left to right: CIM Rose Quartz, Effetre Marmorin, Effetre Medium Topaz

They look great! That first Opal Garden bead is spot-on - good job! Your Lily Pad Gardens look fabulous! Love that Galaxy-look to the Medium Topaz and the frit really popped on the Marmorin! I have an old batch of Rose Quartz that spits at me every time I try to use it. What are you using for etching?

Just Etch-All, if I remember correctly. I did use a little Royal Purple frit on the Marmorin and on some of the others.
Thanks for your encouragement Amber, I really love your beads!

So finally took a picture of my most recent play with Amber's wonderfut tutorial.

These are all on CIM Aloe Juice .. think I need to etch some just to see the difference. I got really nice silver lining on these which made me happy. Had some cool colors with Eff. Carribbean Sea as well. I also like one I did with CIM Commando.

I just love this tut. Amber, thanks so much for sharing your technique.

Default My latest attempts -- etched

So it is a rainy Sunday here and I broke out the Etch-All.

These are CIM Lavander Water, CIM Aloe Juice, and Eff. Caribbean Sea all worked up with the Reichenbach version of frit and no enamel.

Love the design on the Caribbean Sea! You're getting nice silver "framing" on the Aloe Juice, too!

Here are my first attempts of using this tutorial. I didn't have the purple rose frit so I used frit that I fled had purple rose in it.

I liked this pair so much I made earrings.

Great job on getting that silver to sparkle! They all look great. The colors all look correct to me in relation to their base glass. Keep experimenting and have fun!
