Default Inventive Forming: Methods of Making Metal Findings for Glass Bead Artists

Do you sell your jewelry and want to bump it up a notch with your own custom findings yet don't think you have time to produce them? Join us for a specially designed class by Jayne Redman. www.beadcamp.com. February 11–15, 2014.

This workshop will focus on ways of creating ear wires, linkage systems, clasps and bead caps, all with specialized tools and jigs you will engineer for your specific needs. Using these jigs you will also learn time saving ways of forming, measuring, cutting, and connecting sheet and wire. You will be able to make exact duplicates of your findings, enhancing your craftsmanship and adding appeal to your jewelry.

The skills you will learn are:

1.The proper use of metal working hand tools, including files, pliers, hammers and saws, as well as rotary tools such as the flexible shaft and polishing lathe.

2. How to modify existing tools for more specific uses.

3. Wire working skills such as bending, forming, and forging and how to draw wire to change the gauge and hardness. You will also learn various ways to rivet wire including hammering, flame beading and tube riveting.

4. How to drill, form, hammer, cut and saw sheet metal.

5. Texturing using a flexible shaft, rolling mill and chasing tools.

6. Finishing techniques.

7. Pattern development for templates using oak tag paper and brass wire.

If this didn't bump up onto my 5 days of teaching in Glendale AZ, I'd be all over it!

Beadcamp is great, you'll have a wonderful time with nice people, good food, and after class relaxation with wine and poodles!

(hi, Marley!)
