Default Looking for studio layout computer program

I'm going to be moving and building my studio from the ground up (I'm so excited). Does anyone know the name of an easy to use cad type computer program where I can move things around to get the best layout? There are several on the market but they seem to be way more complicated than I need ... anyone have experience with these. If so, your help would be greatly appreciated!!

Default Oh

I have one of those. I think it's called "pencil and paper".
But seriously there are some home decorating programs
that help you place objects in a room.
Not really a cad program but easy to use.

Search for them. Some would be free.

I did several searches but without some outside input ... they all say they are terrific. Thought I'd ask here if anyone had used one they liked.

I'm also in the process of building my studio ground up (as in final plans to be reviewed by the inspector).

I used Adobe Illustrator (because I already owned it) and placed the various groupings of items on separate layers I can turn on and off.

Does it have a grid for measurement? And if not what did you use for a scale? I have Illustrator but never thought to use it.

You can get the building codes from the county building inspectors office.
Stay true to those and you will have no problem.
Remember the codes are the bare minimum.
If you over build a bit you will make him very happy.

I'm not talking about building codes .. I'm talking about a program that will allow me to move and arrange furniture/desks/etc. within a specified area that is all to scale.

I like this free online program, it has lots of pre-populated menus of furniture extra that you can just drag and drop, it also has options to resize/color/ etc them to your exact specs.

http://www.floorplanner.com/

did this layout with it

I just got done designing a stair way using Google Sketch Up.

There are lots of you tube videos on getting it to do what you want so search for that specific " how do you make a ...xxxx...." only entails a google search and watching the videos.

Good luck and let us know what you find and how it works out for you.
