Compair: GTT Cricket and Nortel Minor
Question: I am getting ready to set up my studio and I have only space for ONE torch but I have 2 of them (I bought out a person selling their entire studio) My choices are GTT Cricket or a Nortel Minor. I will be running a 5lpm concentrator. Which would work best? I have in the past use a Minor, but never a Cricket.

The Cricket will run in the range of 90% on one 5 LPM machine. The Minor at 70% or so. i.e. Cricket 5.5 LPM vs 7.0 LPM for Minor.
Like the Cricket in that if one desires to upgrade the center fire of the Scorpion is the Cricket. Thus it is easy to carry over the Cricket skills to the larger Scorpion.
Adding a second 5 LPM machine will really make the Cricket come to life. It will take three 5 LPM machines to adequately run a Scorpion IMO.

If it were me, I'd hook up one, use it for a few sessions, then try the other one, & make my decision since you have them both.

I've run them both - a couple years on each, two 5lpm 8psi machines. Preferred the Cricket, lots more heat.

I'd prefer the Cricket under those conditions. The Minor will work OK but will have a broader flame and won't give you the full range of heat settings that the Cricket will. Try them both out and see which fits your working style best.

I'd say try them both for a week, and see which you like better. I have both torches, with a 15 lpm concentrator, and was kinda shocked to discover I really prefer the minor and the broader flame. It's really just a personality kind of thing.

I have only had a minor but aren't the gtts designed for concentrators? That is what I would go for.

the cricket!, my wife and I ran a mega minor and even on tanked oxy the flame was always running more of a reducing flame. we switched my wife to a scorpion(cricket center) and we both love the cricket center fire, the flame runs nice and clean with plenty of heat and it does very well for fine work as well.
