Default DH PK565

Hi, Just received my order of DH PK565 which is a newly released silver glass. I'm a bit of a silver glass newbie, and have only had a quick play with it yesterday so far. Love to see what others manage to do with it as they get the hang of it too.

In my play yesterday I tried heating it pretty hot (hmm, a bit ooky looking!), encasing it after reduction - seemed to lose most of its MOP effect with the heating needed to melt in the Effetre clear that I used. Didn't have much happen over effetre white, got a sort of apricoty colour over metallic black, looked quite nice over encased Rubino. Next attempt will use Zephyr to encase as it's a softer clear. Oh, my reduced spacers turned out quite nicely, kind of golden shiny.

What's it doing for the rest of you?

Love to hear!

Yes. I have found that you need to let the clear gather cool to just barely malleable before applying to PK565 or else you lose the reduction.

Also have your intended finished shape more or less before reduction and encasement because heating and shaping after its encased also caused a shift in the MOP effect. But boy howdy, once you figure it out, that pink dichro without the dichro look... I can't describe it but the glass is gorgeous!

Like Bubblenbead, I have only been able to play with it for an hour or so. Simple spacers.

So far, just the reduction loss.

Oh. Well.. One more thing I had forgotten. I can't get it to strike. Or I couldn't during that one session. It never opacificed for me similar to DH's photo. But again small spacers and I know from experience with CIM, sometimes opacity requires large amounts of glass.

I bought one rod today. I'll try to get something nice in my next torch session

It's a bit of a challenge, I'm still figuring it out.

I recommend using PK-565 without a clear encasement. Here is a nice example of PK-565 by Gloria Sevey at Happy Bird Glass, showcasing PK-565, lightly reduced, without encasement.

Gloria Sevey's "Golden Peach"

I think you will find that the pink coloration, the luster, and the opalescence are all enhanced when the glass is left on the surface.

I hope these tips help you achieve beautiful results with our new colors.

Thanks again to Gloria Sevey for allowing me to share her work.

Unfortunately, Gloria's photo has now gone from the link, so I am too late to see it. Elizabeth, your beads are lovely
