EEEEK! Gelly and BE???
I made some beads yesterday...when I used up one rod I went for another...the second rod had a label!!!!!!!!!! that was the EEEK!
I was using BE fuchsia and GELLY PINK.... I figured that the beads would all be
in pieces but when they came out of the kiln....
they weren't!
now I did a quick search and found a post by Tink that said they make it in different coe's??????
am I nuts? ok lets not go there...
so all the beads are fine after sitting over night...they have been cleaned...wait I have a number on the gelly STY CO904 511904
so please help me out  I generally spray paint the ends of the glass when I get it to keep it all straight...this wasn't painted...but next to my BE...
I can't remember things from 5 minutes ago so last year is way beyond any memory that I have...
I have been melting two rods together and laying them on top of the kiln if I have any doubts...that is a quick way to find out if they are compatible...
sigh...
so what is the scoop please

C0904 is 104 as far as i can tell. If it's from Frantz 511904 is their label #. Put them in the freezer for a day and see if they last.... good luck!

I think your bead is doomed to die a slow death. Death is sneaking up on your poor bead as we speak. I bet it's a lovely bead, though.

As far as I know CiM Gelly Pink is made in 104 COE.
However, CiM does have other colors made in 96 COE, they are just not widely available.

Huh? Where did my post go??
Even the 96 coe CIM colors are probably too different...Bullseye is 90 coe.

Oooh, pretty!
There is a Bullseye erbium pink that looks a lot like Gelly pink. Do you have any of that? It came out a couple of summers ago.

I use two COE sometimes. For encasing, and for stringer/ detail...
the marbles and paper weights I rarely show here...
If you use racu frit with COE 104; that is two different COE.
(the rumor is 5% frit to 95% 104)
Most paper weights made with Schott crystal are two different COE.
the secret- A small amount of one with a LARGE amount of the other.
90% and 10%...
Paul Stankard and Loren Stump paper weights...two COE.
flowers are 104, and I forget what the exact COE for schott is...it is way SOFTER,
the best clear glass on the market is schott crystal (no, it does NOT have lead in it)
...many secrets to the trade!

THIS IS gelly and BE. The first rod of gelly didn't have a label...the second DID...that pink looks like any BE same general appearance...it was when I went for more I found the label and GAGGED! I was lucky...(the gelly rods were in a cubby hole next to the BE and short but heck I haven't been on the torch for a year...and have memory problems ...like what day is today? what did I have for breakfast...? What year is this! lol....
Actually I had previously made some beads with the fuchsia over BE and they are much prettier... BE sure does pinks well...anyway...

There's too big a difference between the 104 and the 90 COE glass...even in small amounts. And Schott makes a few different COEs.

FYI- the schott I use is only a couple digits off from COE 104. puck S8
Chuckie is right; the rule is to stay within 5 digits...that is what I have been told.
I have a hard time believing BE would work with messy 104.
because they are supposedly 14 digits off.
the question is...are the COE specified right?
science? I have mixed a fair amount of glass;
one little thing, an opacifier, a metal, a slight change to the base batch,
and Viola! A new COE!
makes our job a little more interesting, I suppose...

Viscosity also affects compatibility. Perhaps that's what is holding them together. It would be interesting to see how these beads hold up over the years. I have some older beads that just seem to be crumbling where two colors meet. It's as if the poor bead finally gave up the compatibility fight.
I've got a few beads I made out of nile green opalino encased in 031 pale emerald green effetre. (Hey, I was a newbie...how the heck was I supposed to know it wasn't compatible?) The core is 031 with a whispy layer of nile opalino, pretty much like the hearts in the photo. It still lives. It's beautiful. It's my favorite bead. The ones I made with solid nile green cores have all met an unhappy end, though. I guess construction counts, too!
