Please Help Enamel Headace...
Hi Everybody,
Well I saw a thread here posted on using enamel...so went into my studio did my base color ivory, then a second color on top, then rolled it in fruit punch enamel...and into the kiln..then on a second test bead all the same as the first but just added some clean in a swirl motion...well I kinda like the beads ...untill I touched the bead to take it off the mandral to find the enamel comes off...so can somebody tell me were did I go wrong .. is the enamel supposed to rub off?
I am working on a minor torch...thanks you guys...

You have to torch fire the enamel to get it to adhere to the bead. Just putting in the kiln after rolling it in enamel or sifting enamel onto the bead will not get the enamel hot enough to melt. It has to at least reach an "orange peel" stage of melting, which is still somewhat rough looking. The next stage is smoother and more completely melted into the base bead. Hope that helps.

Yup, roll the bead in enamel then introduce it to the farther part of the flame. Gently melt in and then stick it in the kiln.

Ha! When you said "kitty" I scrolled up thinking, "Kitty??" Oh yeah, Francesca has a kitty! My avi definitely is not a kitty.
I do have pics but will post them tomorrow sometime. I'm just heading off to bed.

Fruit Punch? Are you positive that you are using enamel? I can't find an enamel color with that name. There is a great color of Pixie Dust called Fruit Punch, though. Pixie Dust is mostly powdered mica, which doesn't totally melt into the bead, like enamel does.
To use the Pixie Dust or other powdered mica product, roll a nice hot bead into the powder, tap or wipe the excess Pixie Dust off (I wipe it off using several layers of cotton fabric, then set the fabric on a fire-proof surface just in case it starts to burn), return bead to flame and heat very gently. You might need to repeat the process a couple of times for full coverage, and then put into kiln. No matter how much I wipe the bead before it goes into the kiln, some Pixie Dust always comes after when the bead is cool. Just keep wiping until it's clean.
There are great pictures of lots of colors on Kitty's site at http://www.listen-up.org/kitty/beads/pearl/charts.htm

Ooops, I said I'd post pics but have hardly been on the computer all day. Here are a few beads I've made with enamel:

note that if you wet the cotton fabric first it won't light up - and does a nicer job at grabbing the bits of dust left over
