No. My idea was to take a leaf blower and cut a hole in the top of the hood, and set the blower down in it, and then attach flexible ducting work to the nozzle. Something like this one.

Where else are you going to get 150mph air movement for $26 dollars?

Listen. Save your money and get a proper set up. It might take a year.

I am... I changed my original message to state the above, but then Menty asked if I had really tried that. So I was re-explaining my original stupid idea. I'm not going to try it...

I found a 1500cfm fan that I want to try. I'll have a vent system built by the end of the month. Its my goal for January. (aside from the new torch.)

I like the way you think

I got one of these.

http://www.mdhydro.com/squirrel-cage-fans.html

Keep in mind that you have the duct the area you're working in. Meaning if you have a decent hood or a working box you're ducting a smaller area.

I have this one mounted above my torch and haven't burnt it out yet, but occasionally I do hear the pitch change a little when I've got a really hot flame going.

i bought my squirrel cage fan from a scrap metal business, 15 dollars and 7 years later and it still works awesome. i looks very similar to the one tom has. you buy by the pound at a scrap metal yard. just thought you might be interested. it didn't have a plug end on it when i bought it but the man that worked there hooked it up to show me that it worked. just a thought for you to save money.
keep on torching,,,,,,,,jude

You might want to keep your eye out on craigslist.org and/or freecycle.org to save some $ on a fan. I give you some serious points for creativity on your leaf blower idea

If you think thats worth a giggle, you should see my poultry set up! I'm rather cheap, so I'm always looking for inexpensive ways to get things done. If I can take it apart, rebuild it, rewire it, repaint it, or salavage it in anyway I always do!
