Default Dremel Flex Shaft

I use my Dremel for reaming beads and am planning to actually use it for something else. However, I tried removing the end of the reaming diamond bit from the flex shaft "pen" or whatever the item is called that you hold instead of the Dremel tool. I cannot get that diamond bit out of the chuck. I think it's called a chuck.

I've already watched some YouTube videos and they show how to push the silver button in and use the small wrench that comes in the Dremel kit to turn the chuck counterclockwise, but it won't budge!! I've also tried using heavyduty pliers to loosen it, but it just won't loosen at all. Anyone have this problem before or know what to do? I'm turning it in the correct direction, according to the videos, but that bit will not loosen up. I've tried squirting oil into it and even heating it with a flame for a few seconds. Nothing. Please, someone tell me how to get this thing out!

Have you loosened the chuck at all?
If so, try pushing it in a bit to loosen it up, then pulling it out.

It didn't loosen at all. I even took the Dremel to Home Depot tonight, but the Tool Repair guy couldn't get it off, even with vise grips.

I had that once when I first started using one for cleaning beads and found there was rust built up probably from getting wet while cleaning bead. I think my husband finally got it off for me. I more careful to make sure I keep that part out of the water now.

Its a common issue for glass and lampworkers. Between the bead release, ground glass, and water/rust it sort of gets cemented in.
I'm not really sure the best way to get it free besides a little heat to get the metal to expand, or using a small bit of wire to loosen up the crud. An ultra sonic cleaner may work if you know someone with one, common in dentistry, jewelry shops, and some electronic service shops.

I wonder if that stuff, (is it naval jelly?) would work to get the rusty debris loose.

Maybe a few whacks on the chuck with a hammer would loosen it a bit too.

Or soak it in vinegar?

I had one rust into the collet, and then the collet was rusted into the Dremel. I could not remove it. I disassembled the dremel, got it pried out, but then could not reset a tension spring that was in the handpiece properly. I got a new one, and now remove my reamer and blow the dremel mouth out with canned air each time I use it.

I could try the Water Pik to clean it out. It probably does have a lot of built-up debris in the collet. I like the naval jelly and vinegar ideas, too. I may try heating it also. I just heated for about 10 seconds the one time.

I ended up buying a new Flex Shaft, but that was expensive.

Thank you, everyone, for your input.

had that happen after years of cleaning beads. Got a new one and now I take it apart in between bead cleanings. That way it dries out before I use it again so rust build up is minimal.

Try a squirt of WD-40 and let it soak for a bit.
