Question Clear Scummy Bubbles

When my clear has more scummy bubbles, does that mean I am using too much heat or oxygen? I am trying to figure out if it is me or the glass.

Thank you

It could be any number of things. What kind of torch are you using? Is your glass clean to start with? Have you picked off the cut end of the glass? Can you see any bubbles or lines in the glass before you melt it?

If you're on a Hot Head, try working farther out in the flame. If you're using a surface mix, try adding more oxygen.

I clean my glass with hot soapy water, wipe it down again before using, sometimes with vinegar. I pick off the end of the glass, don't put the little point directly in the flame, using a cooler flame and working further away from the torch head. My clear still gets scum half the time. Welcome to 104 clear. bleh. But try all these things anyway ^^

Some folks swear by pickling but I usually don't have that much vinegar on hand or a place to let it all soak. Some also say VS clear (from Frantz) is better than 006. Some like to use Lauscha but there might be compatibility problems from time to time.

Find your path, grasshopper.
