System 96 Glass
I have purchased some Reichenbach COE 92-96 glass including Iris Orange to have a go at getting some nice colours from it (can't get anything from the 104 version!).
Anyway, I have some sheet System 96 glass that I used ages ago for fusing -can I cut this into strips and use it as a base glass for my raku and others - I'm assuming it'll be OK as the COE's are similar, but wanted to be sure?
Any thoughts?

Yes Steph, you can certainly make beads with your sheet glass.

I use 96 to make a lot of beads that are rolled in frit. I had run out of rods and made a quick trip to the local stained glass store. I picked out a small sheet of 96 clear and the nice lady cut it in strips. Worked perfectly.

I am a newbie, but I've worked with S96 glass for about 7 years. Be sure to warm strips slowly and longer than you would for rods. Strips tend to be much more shocky and also splinter.
A great way to get colors for flameworking when rod colors aren't available.

If you have one of the kiln molds for making murrini you can slump and anneal the strips and make them a little more round edge to handle easier. They are a lot less shocky that way and more consistent in thickness. Isn't that what some of the dichro strips are made from?

Thank you everyone, I made a few beads with a base of the System 96 and it all worked well! A good use of fusing glass I have had around for ages and ages! I did have a bit of splintering but heated more slowly and all was good!
