Default Need help keeping oil slick look

I don't know what the hell has happened but my bead I sell at every show no longer wants to give me colors. I use Sasha's Silver on black and work to just right in the propane and some oxy and get the most gorgeous oil slick look. Purples, blues, magnetas.....totally awesome going into the kiln (all the colors are shining thru and where the Sasha's is, is clear.) when it comes out of the kiln, where the Sasha's was placed is a dull brown and the oil slick colors are gone. I anneal at 940 and tried 920 in hopes it might be that. I REALLY NEED SOME HELP.....this is costing me lost revenue. Any ideas??

Check out this past thread and see if the info will help. If you do a "search" on "activated charcoal" you will find more threads and thoughts of folks over the years. This is just one I found and copy/pasted.

Good luck.

Hi Sue,

Thanks for pointing out that thread. I've read it before and I thought the charcoal thing had been disproved. I even bought some but didn't use it ...guess I'll give it a try now. Lots of great info in your post....thanks!

Angie

I don't know anything about the charcoal but have you tried other reducing glasses to see if the same thing happens? That would narrow it down to whether it's the kiln environment or the glass.

I had a similar problem with my kiln and aurae. i did not find any charcoal to try so I vacuumed the kiln and kept trying. It seemed to correct itself after a couple of weeks...I know it's not much help...
