Rob your beads are so cool!

I keep trying this but have had one disaster after another. Mostly my bead release giving, winding disks just fries it on my 1/16th mandrels. I'm also getting pretty impatient with the melt down. I think I'm making them too big and need to work on more even wraps when I wind on the color. PPP, PPP and more PPP!

When I get a good one I'll be sure to post it!

What size mandrels are you guys using?

ok no laughing allowed...Here are my first and second attempts. Not great but I can see with a little PPP and better color combo this could be cool. I still have a long way to go. And sorry for the bad pic but it was the best I could do last night.

Default Wave bead recipe!

Hey guys, for those of you looking for cool tips & tricks, you can find the recipe for this wavy bead in Lori Robbin's boro cookbook, published a few years ago -- I got mine from Lori directly. I'm sure they're still available!

Best,
Lea

This technique is also taught by Doug Remschneider, who I think was the original teacher.
He does magic with boro.

Thank you BeadMaven, that tut is great, NOW I understand!!! Going to try tomorrow maybe if I'm feeling up to it. Do I have to encase after melting it all in? (hope not)

No, you don't 'have' to, I didn't.

I am on a HH and was in a hurry to get them done so I could look at them!

Great beads, everyone.

Jim Smircich has a cool and slightly different take on this same concept:

Your beads have much more depth, but I remember one I made by mistake.

Use a tranparent color for the base. Add a white (or any other opaque) stripe around the belly of the bead.
Add transparent dots of the same color as the base bead in the same places as used in the above methods. Melt it all flat, and you get the cool wave in the middle.
Pretty basic I know, but I thought it looked cool.
I never tried expanding on the colors though I should have. And I bet it would look really pretty etched too!

Any other ideas?

I have attempted this alot and my results are random.
I can't get them all to melt in and slide into the "v's" or scoops that easily.
Not successful in getting all the colors to show.

And sometimes too much heat makes them start kissing each other!

Any more suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
