Default Our studio makeover

I just wanted to post some before and after pictures of our studio makeover. The first picture is the outside - the glass studio is on the far left and the main barn is the pottery and jewelry (lost wax casting, etc) area. Of course, Munchkin the cat is showing off for the camera. That is her job and she does it so well.

This is a "before" picture of the lampworking area. We had a setup for three torches but the person in the middle didn't have very much room.

So yesterday we cleaned the room out (except for the glass storage that we redid already.)

We will have a long table with 3 work spaces (plenty of room for everybody), one will be deep enough for the Redmax (or a bigger torch when I upgrade.) There will be a table for the kiln and a storage area underneath for boro. The oxygen bottles (and propane, of course) will be outside under cover. The ventilation will be from each torch to a main unit above the workspace to vent outside. I can't wait! I think they will get most of the table done today.

I just had to share with like-minded folks. Thanks for listening.

Peg

Well, the table is done. All we have to do this week is cover it with tile. Luckily we have a tile cutter so it shouldn't be a big deal. We have tiled floors in the past - I swore to myself not to do that again.

Next weekend - ventilation!

There is something obscene about a clean new bench with nothing on it....

Nice studio space. . . special to have one building unit for lampworking and another for pottery and jewelry. Like the looks. . .

And for the lampworking studio, having that nice long table along the windows will create some great space. Look at all those cubbies for glass!

Peg, it really looks great. And at the table with that view and daylight it will be nice to make a bead or two!

Thanks for the nice comments. Believe me, Dale, it won't be obscene for long! We got the tile today and as soon as I get to feeling better (flu) it should be finished in no time.

I just wanted to add a picture taken through the big window to the right of the table - these are our neighbors.

Hope everyone is enjoying their day,
Peg

We finished the table yesterday and are back up and playing today. The fans in the window will be replaced with a real ventilation system. We just couldn't stand not being able to play with glass. Can't wait to see what comes out of the kiln tomorrow!

Thanks for answering, Dale. We got ours at IKEA but I have seen them other places. I have an Uncle Al's tool holder that is the same sort of thing but it sits on the table. I got it at Blue Moon Glassworks.

curious- i use a similar system for ventilation, but have a box built around my torch (got instructions on here awhile back). Is that not enough ventilation?

I would suggest asking Dale any questions about ventilation - he is the ventilation guru.

Default Studio update

It has taken forever but we have the ventilation up and (finally) running! We really didn't think it would take so long but life has gotten in the way. The lights were wired today and we will have the torches back up soon - no, really.

Default completed studio

Our studio is finally completed! We may eventually hard-line all the oxygen and propane lines but until then we are at least up and running now.

This is my station - believe me it won't be clean for long!
