Yes, she does use veiled cane. The question is, how to get it different layers apart like that. ???

The veiled cane? If you encase a regular cane with clear you will have seperation when you wind it on.

Look at Gail's beads in this thread. http://lampworketc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=217815 Looks pretty close to what you are talking about.

OMG all this time....THAT is what I'm looking for! ENCASE THE CANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!
OMG thank you! That totally helps!

But there is still the question of reduction....how do you use reduction glass in these types of beads? How would you reduce before encasing the rod in clear? I guess you could just reduce the rod. (?)

I don't know if it would work, but I'd put a big blob of reduction glass on the end of a thick mandrel, marver it into a big thick barrel, reduce it, heavily encase it in clear and pull it out into a cane.

Knowing only how I work, I don't think the reduction will stick, though.

You have to get the cane up to working temps at least 2-3 times (once to pull it out into cane, once to apply it, and once to shape it) and I feel like that is going to destroy the reduction, if the initial pull doesn't break it up to begin with. I think a better choice would be a striking glass, or a regular color from the Effetre/Vetro/CIM line up.

I make something kind of similar... let me see if I can find any pics...

Is something like this what you have in mind (only with silver glass)?

Oh, ha, I should have read page 2 before posting, I would have seen that you found your answer already.
