"That's government-sponsored racism. I applaud GAS for taking a stand against something that is obviously wrong."

Agreed 110%

If you do not agree with SB1070, Here is the bill, read it.: http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070s.pdf

This bill will allow Arizona to enforce the Federal Government's Laws and Regulations on Illegal Immagration. An officer(s) may only question immigration status if the person(s) are detained while commiting an illegal activity. In other words, an officer cannot simply question a person(s) on their immigration status on pure suspicison, a crime must be committed first. If they are determined illegal, the officer(s) will be allowed to transport them to a Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement or United States Customs and Border Protection without needing federal agents. If anything this is just supporting the already existing laws intact by the Federal Government by providing state support.

Not true. Parageraph B, first page of the bill:

B. FOR ANY LAWFUL CONTACT MADE BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR AGENCY OF THIS STATE OR A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS STATE WHERE REASONABLE SUSPICION EXISTS THAT THE PERSON IS AN ALIEN WHO IS UNLAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES, A REASONABLE ATTEMPT SHALL BE MADE, WHEN PRACTICABLE, TO DETERMINE THE IMMIGRATION STATUS OF THE PERSON. THE PERSON'S IMMIGRATION STATUS SHALL BE VERIFIED WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PURSUANT TO 8 UNITED STATES CODE SECTION 1373(c).

Please define 'reasonable suspicion'. It's racial profiling. Period.

Appears the verbiage to the bill has been changed, from my reading -- and 'lawful contact' has been removed from that section and replaced with verbiage that supports your claim. But if that is the case, the bill that you've posted is outdated and therefore not suitable for reading to form/change an opinion.

Your right, thats my fault as didn't read it just pulled off google. Here is the amended bill where it clearly states individual must be stopped for a seperate occurance before officer may question the persons immigration status: http://www.azleg.gov/alispdfs/council/SB1070-HB2162.PDF

Please explain racial profiling.

And as far as providing proof of citizenship:

Page 1, 32: A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR AGENCY OF THIS STATE OR A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS STATE MAY NOT CONSIDER RACE, COLOR OR NATIONAL ORIGIN IN IMPLEMENTING THE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS SUBSECTION EXCEPT TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY THE UNITED STATES OR ARIZONA CONSTITUTION. A PERSON IS PRESUMED TO NOT BE AN ALIEN WHO IS UNLAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES IF THE PERSON PROVIDES TO THE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER OR AGENCY ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
1. A VALID ARIZONA DRIVER LICENSE.
2. A VALID ARIZONA NONOPERATING IDENTIFICATION LICENSE.
3. A VALID TRIBAL ENROLLMENT CARD OR OTHER FORM OF TRIBAL IDENTIFICATION.
4. IF THE ENTITY REQUIRES PROOF OF LEGAL PRESENCE IN THE UNITED STATES BEFORE ISSUANCE, ANY VALID UNITED STATES FEDERAL, STATE OR LOCAL GOVERNMENT ISSUED IDENTIFICATION.
