Best annealing temp. for Spoons!
Hey guys! I have a Paragon 1562 and its fairly new. I was wondering what annealing programs are the best!? Some of my pieces come out with a slight crack after I take them out :/ Any advice would be appreciated !

i'd start with googling "borosilicate annealing schedule" because thicknesses, whether you want to kiln strike etc come into play.
typically 15minutes @ 1050f per 1/4" thick, followed by 150f per hour cooldown to around 950f and hold for 30 minutes, followed by 200f per hour cooldown to room temp.
take that with a grain of salt...it's been a long time since i programmed my kiln and i forget exactly the #'s.

I'm thinking maybe you've got hot and cold spots going into the kiln that is causing the cracking. You could try bringing the piece to the same temp far out in the flame before you put it in the kiln.

Try searching the boro room for annealing schedule or annealing issues. There has been tons of discussion on the topic. My standard answer is get a copy of "Contemporary Lampworking". Then check the color Mfgr web sites.

hold at 1050, up to 1075 in 15 minutes, hold 30 minutes, down to 975 over 30 minutes, hold 30 minutes. cracks are probably there before you put them in the kiln.

That's what I figure too Mike. I hope to get more info on what the original poster is doing and maybe help solve the issue.
