ABSTRACT ORGANICS
November 23-24, 2013, 10am-6pm
This class will be an intensive lesson on using Puffy mandrels to achieve an organic look using silver fluming. stringer work, and raking. We'll be learning how to get the look that causes people to ask, "Is that glass?"
The beginning of the class will focus on heat control and getting the corrrct shaping for your hollows. Aja will discuss how she chooses her color palettes, designs, and the importance of experimentation. Hollows are nice as a larger canvas without the added weight. ate patterned surfaces rich in depth and layered interest.
After the basics are down, fuming and the various effects will be covered, and the fun begins! Aja will demonstrate capping and coring a hollow bead with a Jim Moore bead press on the second day of class. There will also be time to cover different methods of etching, and the students will be able to etch beads from the first day of class. Students will be able to purchase supplies to cap and core their own beads. Although glass is provided for the class, students may also bring any of their own glass for experimenting.
This is an intermediate class, and you should have a solid foundation in making hollows.
Lunch is included both days
